10th May 2017 Reaper Remotely Piloted System (RPAS)

Malvern Radar and Technology History Society (MRATHS)

A warm and sunny evening did not deter members and visitors from attending our bi-monthly meeting at Malvern College.

We recapped recent events, most notably a successful and enjoyable visit by David Whitaker and John Gillham to the Wyche school to engage with the year 4/5 class on Malvern WW2 history and science.  Hugh Williams then informed the attendees that the Defford Air Heritage Group archive was being merged with that of MRATHS before he displayed various recently acquired images for the audience to identify and comment upon.  He then described several upcoming activities.

The main speaker was Wing Commander Andy Jeffrey who described his personal experiences setting up the setting up the Reaper Remotely Piloted Air System (RPAS) including intriguing insights into introducing and working with such equipment.  Andy was already known to some attendees and so there were good interactions between speaker and audience – helped in no small measure by Andy’s humorous or thought provoking anecdotes.

As usual, the evening completed with refreshments and extensive informal discussions involving most of the attendees who became so engrossed that they had to be reminded that it was time to leave!
